Light steel structures are becoming more and more popular, and color steel plates are also commonly used. However, due to design reasons, water leakage on color steel plate roofs also occurs one after another. So what are the reasons for design factors?

Too gentle slope design

The slope of steel structure metal sloping roof should be taken as one-eighth to one-twentieth, and it is advisable to take a larger value for the place with more rainfall. However, in the actual design project, the design is not based on the local maximum rainfall and the average annual rainfall to calculate the roof catchment, resulting in the design of roof slope is small, rainwater can not be discharged to the gutter in a timely manner, so that the roof accumulation of water, resulting in roof leakage phenomenon.

Failure to install roof overflows

During the design of the roofing system, overflow measures need to be provided without code to ensure timely diversion of stormwater when the intensity of the storm exceeds the capacity of the stormwater system to discharge. Failure to do so will result in rainwater exceeding the lap joints and even spreading onto the roof, causing leakage incidents.

Inadequate design of drainage facilities

The size of the gutter and the number of downspouts should be set appropriately according to specifications and local rainfall. If the size of the gutter is too small, or the number of downspouts is too few, there will be no time to drain the water during heavy rains, causing water overflow. In addition, if there is no L-shaped edge piece added to the upper part of the wall panel, there will also be a hidden danger of water leakage from the inside of the gutter.

Selection of poorly draining roof panel types

The selection of roof panels needs to be determined by considering the local rainfall as per the specifications and then after calculations. Generally, the rib height of the roof panel is high, which is good for drainage; in addition, try to choose the panel type with good lateral laps, such as SL75-468, which is an upright locking edge with 360° biting, it will greatly reduce the possibility of water leakage. Many cases of water leakage accidents are caused by the improper selection of panels type.
